München and Dachau

About a year ago the oldest son and I went on a Holocaust Remembrance Tour sponsored by the MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) on post. We were to go to Dachau and then go to München (Munich) to tour the city. The tour consisted off "Get off the bus and go wherever you want". We walked all over trying to find somewhere that was geared towards tourists so I could get souvenirs. They had dropped us off in the most expensive part of the city. Speaking of expensive, people must have more money than they know what to do with there because I have never seen so many Lamborghini's, Porsche's, and other expensive cars in MY LIFE. I absolutely LOVED the street performers that we encountered. Sorry for the video quality.. these were taken with my camera before I got my video camera.

Dachau was a sobering experience, and NO you CANNOT still "smell it". The smell of death is long gone. Here is a video I did, you can consider it your own tour of the camp.

You have a real talent for videography! I've never been to Dachau but all stories I've heard don't compare with your video! Great choice in music too! :) What program do you use?

Many years ago I made the trip to Dachau. It was a weird experience. I could feel a chillness in those barracks. Imagining the situation was tough. It was quite an experience

Wow, Laura, thank you for the video. Maybe the smell is gone, but you can reach out and touch the sadness.

Thanks for Posting this Laura. We visited Mauthausen camp way back in 1974, and found it very powerful, and sobering. These places have an aura around them that affects us all.

I have never been to München or Dachau. The first video was great, the second video was heart breaking but no less great. It breaks my heart to know that the Nazis had such little regard for human life. My heart is saddened :( Thank you for the sobering tour I really felt as if I were walking by your side as you were filming.
Blessing
Jessica

Hi Laura the concentration camp in Dachau must have been one of the saddest places I have ever visited. I must still find the courage to relive the memories and to write my blog about it.

I have very fond memories of my time in Munich, especially my time in the Hofbrauhaus!
